Programme and Digital Sales

Premium content is at the heart of what we do. Drama that keeps us on the edge of our seats. Comedies that make the world laugh. Nature programmes that transport us to hidden worlds. We don’t just reformat BBC content for sale to other commercial channels. We also commission from independent creators or produce content from our own studios in the USA, India and France.

  • Deadly

    Broadcast on CBBC, Deadly features the irrepressible naturalist and explorer Steve Backshall traversing the globe to unearth amazing phenomena in the natural world. No wonder the programme appeals to children and young people the world over.

  • Top Gear

    Top Gear is available, not only in the UK, but in many countries including France, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Spain and the USA. It's a strong brand with DVDs, books, live shows and other merchandise. The motoring show can lay claim to being one of the most popular factual television programmes in the world, watched by an audience of 350 million in 214 territories.

  • Sherlock

    Sherlock is licenced to over 225 territories globally, making it a major revenue earner for the BBC. In 2013, it was sold to more broadcasters worldwide than any other programme, while the 2016 New Year special, The Abominable Bride, was released on 6,000 cinema screens in Asia with phenomenal box office results.

  • Doctor Who

    Doctor Who is one of the BBC's best-selling brands. In 2015, Doctor Who Series 9 was watched in the UK by an average consolidated audience of 7.4 million. It was licensed to 189 territories and achieved record ratings on BBC America and Space channel in Canada. From 2016, Latin American followers of the Time Lord can enjoy the show exclusively on Syfy.

  • The home of premium, original British drama, BBC First shows world-renowned, award-winning talent in front of and behind the camera. It delivers audiences the first chance to see stories that challenge, immerse and entertain, all with a unique British perspective.

Brand building

The likes of Doctor Who and Top Gear are popular brands around the globe. Then there are genre brands like CBeebies and BBC Brit, and hugely popular formats like Bake Off and Strictly (Dancing with the Stars). We help the BBC and other content creators make the most of their wonderful products by building brands through distribution, events, social media engagement and merchandising.

  • Doctor Who

    In 2014, we took The 12th Doctor and his companion on the first ever Doctor Who World Tour – a 12 day global promotional tour – taking in South Korea, Australia, USA, Mexico and Brazil on the way.

  • Top Gear

    When we launched BBC Brit and BBC Earth in Poland, we teased our fans and excited the press by taking a giant statue of Top Gear’s The Stig to Warsaw in celebration.

  • Cbeebies

    Now kids can play with the characters they love in real life. CBeebies Land at Alton Towers Theme Park brings to life some of the preschool channel's most-loved characters, with rides, immersive play areas and live experiences.
